Dietary Cook/Aid

In keeping with our organization’s tradition, we seek to enhance the quality of life and holistic growth of older persons by providing high quality service in a cheerful, timely manner and by communicating, coordinating and cooperating with others to attain goals. The cook/dietary assistant will prepare nutritionally sound meals consistent with departmental policies and procedures, state and federal laws and regulations and meals that meet daily nutritional and special dietary needs for residents, guests, and employees. 



Education: High School diploma or equivalent preferred.  

Licensure: None.  Must obtain Serv Safe certification within one year

Work Experience: Previous experience preferred.

Freedom from illegal use of drugs, and freedom from use and effects of use of drugs and alcohol in the workplace.

Persons who have been found guilty by a court of law of abusing, neglecting or mistreating individuals in a health care related setting are ineligible for employment in this position.




Follow all state and federal laws and regulation, facility and department policies and procedures, including maintaining the confidentiality of all patients and residence in accordance with HIPAA.


Prepares and/or assists in preparing regular and therapeutic diets following oral and written instructions, medically ordered special drinks, menu’s, recipes, spreadsheets, etc., with knowledge of kitchen equipment operation.


Keeps food waste to a minimum.


Maintains routine meal schedules and serving times.


Prepares foods for special parties and groups, and assist in the planning of these events in a cooperative manner.


Cleans and maintains the kitchen facility in a safe and sanitary manner including floors, walls, all equipment and utensils. Completes all assigned cleaning duties and maintains proper documentation related to assignments.


Ensures dinning room cleanliness by assisting with daily assigned tasks including tables, condiment stations and serving areas.


Performs dish washing of pots, pans and other designated items.


Ensures orders are checked in and put away, when assigned, in an accurate and orderly manner to avoid waste.


Works with together with dietary co-worker to maintain kitchen activity in absence of dietary manager.


Fills food to patients and residents.


Takes food orders from various departments.
