Emergency Management Coordinator

The Emergency Management Coordinator is responsible for creating and administering an emergency preparedness and disaster program for South Big Horn County Hospital District.  This person will represent South Big Horn County Hospital District during community events, trainings, meetings and during actual situations of community and/or facility emergencies and disasters.



Education:      Preferred graduate of a four-year college or university with a major in public health, emergency management or a closely related field.

Licensure:       National Incident Management System certification in incident courses 100, 200, 700 and 800 or ability to obtain within 90 days.

Work Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ experience in emergency management or related field.

Free from illegal use of drugs, and free from the use and effects of drugs and alcohol in the workplace.

Persons who have been found guilty by a court of law of abusing, neglecting or mistreating individuals in a health care related setting are ineligible for employment in this position.



  • Knowledge of local, state and federal regulatory guidelines and requirements in emergency response and disaster planning.

Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and activities simultaneously. Must be able to prioritize projects and handle change productively when assigned additional tasks/projects.

Conduct self in a professional, courteous manner with co-workers, staff and the public in order to maintain a cooperative relationship among the healthcare teams.  Must adhere to a philosophy and culture of teamwork and cooperation at all times.

Skill in analyzing situations, equipment and information accurately to create effective action plans and provide pre and post emergency preparedness reports.

Must possess strong communication skills to effectively represent Three Rivers Health within the community and successfully implement plans, training and education within the facility.

Keep informed of activities or changes within the area and nationally that could affect the likelihood of an emergency and those activities and/or changes that could affect response efforts.

Must have ability to travel when position requires.



Coordinate with staff to design, write and maintain emergency response plans, decontamination program, manuals and standard operating procedures by utilizing local, state and federal regulatory guidelines and requirements to ensure plans are integrated with emergency response plans of other agencies and accommodates the needs and capability of the facility.

Chair and facilitate emergency preparation meetings. Conduct surveys to determine the types of emergency and disaster related circumstances that may occur within the community and facility.

Maintain and update all resource materials associated with emergency management and preparedness plans.  Administer trainings to teach facility employees and management their roles, duties and expectations in the event of an emergency or disaster.

Attend and participate in meetings, conferences and workshops related to emergency management to learn new information and to develop working relationships with other emergency management specialist to include LEPC and WYO HPP.

Propose alterations of emergency response procedures based on regulatory changes, technological changes or knowledge gained from outcomes of previous emergency situations. Prepare emergency situation reports that describe response and recovery efforts, needs and preliminary assessments.

Researches and seeks funding to support emergency preparedness and disaster planning activities from sources such as grants or development programs.

Observes all Federal, State, and local laws, rules, regulations and facility policies and procedures.
