POSITION SUMMARY:

The Infection Control Nurse is responsible for the prevention, investigation, monitoring and reporting of the spread of disease in all departments and divisions within Three Rivers Health.  To effectively perform in this function, the infection control nurse will combine epidemiological and public health practices with administrative tasks.  This position will education staff and patients on infection control protocols and policies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

Education:                   Graduate from an accredited nursing program with an associates or bachelor’s degree in nursing.

Licensure:                    Valid and Active Wyoming RN license

Work Experience:       Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a healthcare setting with 1 of the years working in an infection control capacity.

Free from illegal use of drugs, and free from use and effects of use of drugs and alcohol in the workplace.

Persons who have been found guilty by a court of law of abusing, neglecting or mistreating individuals in a health care related setting are ineligible for employment in this position.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

Responsible for the effective creation, direction, management, and operation of the infection prevention program based on epidemiological principles and statistical methods for the nursing home facility, critical access hospital and clinic.

Using evidence-based practices, CMS guidelines, CDC regulations and Federal, State and County regulations will implement and monitor policies and procedures for hospital, clinic and nursing home staff.

Collect analyze and interpret health data in order to plan, implement and evaluate appropriate health practices.

Conduct periodic reviews and audits of the infection prevention program to ensure adherence to facility policies and procedures and Federal and State regulations.

Develop annual infection prevention plans and goals with other stakeholders to ensure optimal adherence and continuity of the plan.

Notify the County and/or State Health Departments of any reportable diseases, adhering to all internal county and state procedures.

In conjunction with employee health nurse, will be responsible for all pre-employment testing and vaccination processes, annual N95/TB/Influenza testing and/or vaccinations, and the management of potential blood exposures, employee illnesses and disease outbreaks.

Liaise with the Employee Health nurse regarding relevant staff member health issues and Human Resources to ensure appropriate training of staff and develop pre-employment/onboarding processes for new employees.

Attend management meetings and/or Board of Trustee meetings to provide report on infection prevention plan and goal achievement.

Develop and implement continuously improved patient care procedures and control mechanisms relating to quality, compliance and infectious diseases.

Participate in infection prevention and control education of all employees monthly/annually, as needed, including classes in infection prevention and control practices.

Ensure timely reporting for quality measures and Federal and State requirements.

Education patients and families regarding disease prevention.

Adhere to Three Rivers Health’s policies and procedures, compliance program, quality programs and Federal and State regulations.

  • Essential functions are carried out in a variety of positions including standing, stooping, bending, squatting, lifting and/or sitting.  Virtually all positions require the ability to move freely through the building.
  • May have long periods of time sitting.
  • Lift, carry, turn and manipulate items with a weight of 50 lbs. or more.
  • Exposure to infectious material.
  • Exposure to the stresses associated with an intimate, 24-hour care environment that delivers care and services to the disabled, cognitively impaired, and acutely ill and injured.
